Aaron Ramsdale has been impressive for Southampton since he signed from Arsenal in the summer transfer window. During his time, he has made some incredible saves, showing his level.
At the start of the season, he did make a few mistakes. However, this could be attributed to general rustiness. It must be remembered, after all, that he spent most of last season on the Arsenal bench.
However, Southampton fans hope that Ramsdale keeping the clean sheet has given him some of the confidence his earlier performances warranted. His recent comments to the media certainly hint that this is the case.
Speaking to BBC Radio Solent, Aaron Ramsdale insisted that his performance at the weekend was "the real Aaron Ramsdale." He also claimed that the clean sheet fitted the standards he sets for himself.
In his own words, Aaron Ramsdale said: "That's sort of the standards I keep myself, hold myself by. That's the real Aaron Ramsdale that the Saints fans saw [against Everton]."
Ramsdale was also full of praise for his new teammates. He suggested that he's witnessed the rest of the team working hard and playing brilliant football on the training pitch. It was always just a case of bringing that to the 90 minutes which mattered and that's exactly what the Saints did against Everton.
Having a figurehead in the team like Ramsdale must not go overlooked. He was not only signed for his performances on the pitch but his presence off the pitch too.
Aaron Ramsdale has played with some of the best defenders in the world. At Arsenal, he played with William Saliba and Gabriel. He has also been around the likes of John Stones and Kyle Walker for England.
It must not be overlooked that Aaron Ramsdale is still young. While his mature performances might suggest the opposite, Ramsdale is just 26 years old. By a goalkeeper's standard, this is still young and a way off his prime.
If Ramsdale's performances and comments to the media are anything to go by, then Southampton might be looking at their future captain. Either way, he will be a leadership figure at St Marys for a few years to come, we hope.
