One position that Manchester City will need to strengthen in the summer is at right-back. With Kyle Walker having left the club on loan to AC Milan, Pep Guardiola currently has Rico Lewis and Matheus Nunes, who share duties in the role. Manuel Akanji can play at right-back if required but he is likely out for the remainder of this season due to an abductor injury. It does seem that City will move for a right-back during the upcoming summer transfer window.
But who they could target is a good topic to analyse. A report from Mike McGrath for the Telegraph indicates that versatile Juventus full-back Andrea Cambiaso and Newcastle right-back Tino Livramento are players that Manchester City are currently monitoring. The case for City moving for Cambiaso has been covered. But looking at Tino Livramento as a player he does fit the profile of a potential Manchester City signing.
Tino Livramento has established himself as Newcastle’s first-choice right-back this season. Across 33 appearances this season for Eddie Howe’s side Livramento has shown that he is one of the brightest young defensive talents in the Premier League. Livramento has always been a highly rated prospect but now he appears to have taken the next step in his career. The strengths of his game do appear suited to playing in a Pep Guardiola side.
Tino Livramento is a quality player going forward for a right-back. That stands out when watching him play for Eddie Howe’s side. The young full-back is also an intelligent player which helps him with his defensive positioning and also aids his cause when on the ball. The intelligence in Livramento’s game helps him tremendously when defending. He reads the game well and knows when to time a challenge. All told Livramento is the total package defensively with his speed and tactical awareness. He isn’t the finished product but he has the potential to be a top right-back in the Premier League.
Livramento is also a weapon in Newcastle’s attacking play. He is good on the ball and can make overlapping runs or drift into midfield. The young defender does have the ability to play in a quality ball from out wide and his ability to get up and down the pitch would suit Manchester City’s style of play. Based on what Livramento has shown at Newcastle you could see why City are monitoring his progression.
At 22 years of age Livramento is also the right age for a Manchester City signing. He has shown he is a quality player with his best football ahead of him. But the problem may be Newcastle’s reluctance to sell him. He is crucial to Eddie Howe’s side and that may impede any City move for the young right-back. That’s something that may scupper any move from Manchester City for Livramento.
It’s obvious to see why Manchester City would be monitoring Tino Livramento. He’s English, has his best football ahead of him and has shown he is a quality Premier League player. Whether or not City do move for Livramento in the summer is now a story to monitor during the summer transfer window.
