A new target has emerged as Manchester City chase a left-back and he has the pedigree to fit in at City | OneFootball

Earlier this week it was revealed by Esteemed Kompany sources that Manchester City had a list of targets to slot in at left-back. Most of the players listed in the report are well-known. City’s interest in Andrea Cambiaso is well-documented. Players such as Milos Kerkez, Rayan Ait-Nouri, Destiny Udogie, Theo Hernandez and Tyrick Mitchell are known commodities. There was another player listed by Esteemed Kompany sources as a potential target for Manchester City. That was Benfica left-back Àlvaro Carreras. On closer inspection, the Spanish left-back has the pedigree and talent to slot into Pep Guardiola’s squad.

Looking at Àlvaro Carreras as a player he is an imposing full-back who stands at 186 centimetres tall. He also has the pace and athleticism to get up and down the pitch. Those physical attributes do appear suited to the Premier League. Technically, Carreras is a gifted player with a wide variety of passing. He can play as an overlapping full-back or drop into midfield when required. Those attributes would be of interest to Manchester City based on how Pep Guardiola’s side typically plays.

Defensively, Carreras is a sound defender. He is strong in a duel and is also good in the air. His physical size does aid his cause in this side of the game. Although, at times the brashness of youth does crop up in his play. He is only 22 years of age and should mature as a player in time and in the right environment. All told, he could develop into a high-quality left-back, which makes him a player that could slot into Pep Guardiola’s squad.

Spanish publication Fichajes has further reported that Àlvaro Carreras is on Manchester City’s list of left-backs that they could attempt to sign this summer. So it does seem that the young left-back has caught City’s eye.

In 45 appearances this season Àlvaro Carreras has scored 3 goals and added 5 assists. But more than that he has caught the eye as a young defender who has the talent and intelligence to make it at the highest level. After a failed spell at Manchester United Carreras may feel that he has unfinished business in England. If that is the case Manchester City could move for the young defender this summer.

If they can’t sign Andrea Cambiaso, for example, a move for Àlvaro Carreras could be something City pursue. Based on his performances for Benfica he could be a player who would arrive at the Etihad with little fanfare but could very well develop into a solid member of Pep Guardiola’s squad.
