It is no secret that Manchester City are in desperate need of midfielders to bolster Pep Guardiola’s squad next month. City’s midfield appears to be ageing and the loss of Rodri to an ACL injury has crippled City’s engine room. With the January transfer window only 2 weeks away from opening, finding quality midfielders to bolster their midfield looms is a major priority for Manchester City.

A host of midfielders have already been linked with a potential move to the Etihad. Now a new name has been added to the list of City targets. That is AC Milan midfielder Tijjani Reijnders. On closer inspection, the Dutch international could add life and energy to City’s midfield. He is also a quality player who would add tremendous technical ability to City’s midfield stocks.

Spanish publication Fichajes reports that Manchester City could bid €50 million for Reijnders next month. Furthermore, the Fichajes reports suggest that AC Milan would be reluctant to sell the Dutch international next month. But a €50 million bid from the world champions could test their resolve to keep one of their key players.

Tijjani Reijnders would add what Manchester City’s midfield lacks but signing him in January could be a tough ask.

Tijjani Reijnders has become one of AC Milan’s key players since he arrived at the club. He is almost the heartbeat of their midfield and his performances this season further highlight this fact. In 21 appearances in all competitions, he has scored 7 goals and added 3 assists. Those are superb numbers for a midfielder. But they only tell part of the story as to why Reijnders is such a quality player.

The Dutch international is a versatile midfielder. He can play multiple roles across midfield.  His standout attribute in his play is his quality on the ball. Reijnders has a wide range of passing and that stands out in his play. The Dutch midfielder does need to work on the defensive side of his game but there are shades of Italian legend Andrea Pirlo in his game. Manchester City lack a midfielder who dictates the tempo of the game at the moment. Tijjani Reijnders can do just that. If they could prise him out of AC Milan he would immediately strengthen Pep Guardiola’s midfield.

Tijjani Reijnders is the latest midfielder to be named as a target for Manchester City. Whether or not he is gettable next month remains to be seen. Although that appears unlikely. Fabrizio Romano has reported via X that the midfielder is close to signing a contract extension with AC Milan. But as a player he would add something that is lacking to Manchester City’s midfield. That makes it easy to see why he is now reportedly on the list of City targets in the January transfer window as per the report from Fichajes.
