At the beginning of his Manchester City career, it appeared that there was no defined role for Matheus Nunes. He couldn’t establish himself as a midfielder in Pep Guardiola’s squad. This season, we have seen him deployed on the left wing, where he did have his moments of quality. But he has established himself in the City squad as a right-back. He put in a quality performance yesterday as the Portuguese international played an important role in Manchester City’s 2-nil win over Everton at Goodison Park.

Matheus Nunes was solid defensively at right-back yesterday. He didn’t put a foot wrong at the back. That’s a credit to Nunes as, at times, he can be targeted in the position. On the ball, he was calm and composed in possession. Going forward his overlapping runs were a valuable attacking weapon in City’s play. He almost set up a goal for Kevin De Bruyne on the stroke of halftime. Nunes did set up Nico O’Reilly’s opener with a quality cross in the 84th minute. It was a brilliant piece of play from Matheus Nunes and showed what he offers to City’s play.
