Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has made a big claim about the quality of Reds star Virgil van Dijk following last night’s win over Tottenham.
Arne Slot’s side thrashed Spurs 4-0 to reach the final of the Carabao Cup, and Van Dijk was among the scorers on the night as he put in another fantastic performance.
Carragher is, unsurprisingly, a huge fan of the Netherlands international, and insists it’s now clear he’s far ahead in the debate of the best centre-backs we’ve seen in the Premier League.
Watch below as Carragher says it’s “a joke” how good Van Dijk is, and that he’s never seen a defender play the game with such ease before…

Carragher himself was a top defender for Liverpool, while he also played alongside some all-time greats of English football like Rio Ferdinand and John Terry at international level.
So this is a big compliment from Carragher, and many Liverpool fans will agree that Van Dijk truly is establishing himself as a legendary performer in his position.
Van Dijk may be putting in world class displays on the pitch at the moment, but how much longer will we be seeing him in a Liverpool shirt for?

The 33-year-old is in the final few months of his LFC contract, so it could be that the Merseyside giants will be dealt the blow of losing him on a free transfer at the end of the season.
Liverpool fans will be desperately hoping it’s true, though, as it’s very hard to imagine how they could possibly replace such an influential player.
Players like Van Dijk don’t come around very often, and even if he’s not getting any younger it’s obvious he’s still one of the most important players in this team.
