While he wore the AS Monaco jersey for the first time in an official match against Le Havre (3-1), the English international defender wasted no time in showing his level, even scoring a goal as a bonus.

He’s barely arrived and he’s already fitted in! Having arrived in the Principality at the end of May to bring all his experience to a young and talented group, Eric Dier hasn’t taken long to convince. Starting in central defence on AS Monaco’s return to Ligue 1 McDonald’s against Le Havre on Saturday, the former Bayern Munich player played a major role in a win for the Rouge et Blanc (3-1).

Love is in the air! ✈️

And not only through his defensive interventions (1 interception, 6 clearances, 2 duels won, 4 balls recovered), but also through his presence in the opposing area. Very authoritative in the air, the English international (49 caps, 3 goals) thus afforded himself the luxury of scoring for the first time in La Diagonale. On a perfectly delivered corner from Lamine Camara, number 3 indeed doubled the Monaco lead (2-0, 62′)!

I just attacked the area where I was supposed to be and Lamine made a nice cross. We executed that move the way we wanted. I'm happy to have been able to score the second goal of the game.

Unprecedented beginnings 📊

It was a successful baptism by fire, which was confirmed at the final whistle, despite the Normans’ reduction of the lead (3-1). “It was a very good day for me, even if for a first appearance, you never know what to expect. I am very happy with the victory and my goal”, he said in the mixed sone just after the match. Eric Dier was thus quickly integrated, and was in turn greeted by coach Adi Hütter in front of the media.

Especially since, by showing himself to be decisive in his first official match with AS Monaco, the Englishman became the first central defender to score on his Ligue 1 debut since Nayef Aguerd against Nice with Dijon on August 25, 2018, per the statistics provider Opta. More to come! 🇬🇧
