“A decent point”

Markus Krösche, Dino Toppmöller and Kevin Trapp react to the 1-1 draw with VfL Wolfsburg.

Board member for sport Markus Krösche: “We deserved the point in the end. We didn’t play too well in the first half. It was our seventh game in the space of three weeks and you could tell Wolfsburg were a little fresher than us. They were on their game defensively and took the lead from what wasn’t even a chance. We showed superb character after that. The substitutions gave us real momentum and the goal was superb. We have to settle for a point – it was an important one.”

Head coach Dino Toppmöller: “It was a promising start to the game with a good chance at both ends, with ours coming from Ansgar. Other than that, neither team played well in the first half. We were in a better position for the opener – we were facing the ball and should have dealt with it better. It became the kind of game we would have lost last season. The players who came on gave us good energy and it was a decent last 30 minutes from us. We played with power, had some good opportunities and got a deserved equaliser through [Can] Uzun, thereby managing to keep Wolfsburg at arm’s length. [To get a point] after seven games in three weeks is positive.”

Kevin Trapp: “We’ll take the point, even though we’re disappointed. We made a lot of easy mistakes in the first half and didn’t have many clear-cut openings up front. Perhaps we weren’t quite purposeful enough. In the end, it was good that we didn’t lose the game. We had chances to score a second goal, which shows our character. The goal we conceded was silly – a classic misunderstanding. I was trying to communicate with Tuta.”
