La Liga giants Real Madrid have on Thursday been dealt a blow on the personnel front.

This comes amid confirmation that David Alaba has suffered a considerable setback in his efforts to return to the pitch.

Stopper Alaba, for his part, has of course been confined to the sidelines since December of last year.

As much comes after the Austrian international became the third member of Carlo Ancelotti’s squad in the space of mere months to suffer a torn ACL.

Alaba, in turn, went under the knife to repair the problem, with the aim of linking back up with his teammates in Madrid early next season.

As alluded to above, however, this week, the former Bayern Munich standout has been dealt something of a blow.

As per a report from Relevo, Alaba on Wednesday underwent a 2nd surgical procedure on his knee – an arthroscopy – in his home country of Austria.

This is viewed as a ‘bad sign’, which is expected to culminate in the 31-year-old’s planned return being pushed back by a number of weeks.

The initial hope was that Alaba would resume physical activities between August and September. Now, a timeline of September to October is looking more likely.
