Long before Noni Madueke signed, Arsenal were linked with a move for Bryan Mbeumo.
In many ways, he was seen as an ideal alternative to Bukayo Saka.
His Mohamed Salah-like authority from the wing, ability to torment defenders, and goal threat would have offered a different but dangerous alternative to Saka’s cutting edge.
But Arsenal never turned their interest into a concrete bid, and ultimately, Mbeumo moved to Manchester United.
To some Gooners, a move for Mbeumo never made sense, he is the type of player who expects to start week in, week out.
And now, the £72 million United forward has opened up about why transfers to other Premier League clubs, including Arsenal, failed to materialise, as per The Mirror.
He revealed:
“I spoke to some other managers because I wanted to hear about their projects. But the Manchester United one was very good for me.”
It makes sense that Mbeumo chose a project he felt aligned with.

Even for Arsenal, Mbeumo was not seen as a priority signing this summer.
Yes, the Gunners needed attacking reinforcements, specifically, a top striker and a left winger.
Mbeumo is not either.
While he hints that Arsenal’s project did not suit him, the club have since moved decisively, signing striker Viktor Gyökeres and versatile winger Noni Madueke.
And with Eberechi Eze still anticipated to arrive from Crystal Palace, Arsenal’s attacking evolution is taking precise shape.
Eze, the low-block unlocker, offers real x-factor, the kind that might make Arsenal fans forget Mbeumo was ever linked.
Come 17th August, as Manchester United and Arsenal clash at Old Trafford, Mbeumo could get his first taste of that rivalry.
And depending on how that match unfolds, it might offer a reality check as to whether he is truly where he is meant to be.
What do you think Gooners?
