Championship clubs are interested in signing a defender from the Scottish Premiership.
Championship clubs Blackburn Rovers and Charlton Athletic have had seven-figure bids for defender Lewis Miller rejected by Scottish Premiership side Hibernian.
Blackburn and Charlton both made bids worth £1 million for Miller, but Hibernian have rejected the offers, as per Sky Sports Scotland.
The physical defender is capable of playing at right-back and on the right-hand side of a back three, which is where he impressed for Hibernian during the second half of last season as they achieved a third-place finish in the Scottish top flight.
The Sydney-born 24-year-old is a full international for Australia, and with less than a year remaining on his contract at Easter Road after Hibs triggered a 12-month extension to his contract in April, he could be the subject of a transfer battle between Blackburn and Charlton as the summer transfer window progresses.
With Hibernian rejecting bids worth £1 million despite Miller's contract being set to expire in 2026, it is clear that the Edinburgh-based outfit rate the player highly.
To put those offers into perspective, Hibernian broke their all-time transfer record this summer with the signing of Togo international striker Thibault Klidje from Swiss club Luzern for a fee said to be in excess of £1 million.
It remains to be seen whether Blackburn or Charlton return with improved offers for Miller this summer, but given that the initial offers were relatively significant, and the player is out of contract next summer, it would not be hugely surprising to see them come in and test the water with slightly increased bids.
Miller made 39 appearances for Hibernian in all competitions last season and has represented the club in UEFA Europa Conference League qualifiers, but he might see a move to the Championship as a good opportunity at this stage of his career, especially as he is no doubt aiming to be included in the Australia squad for the FIFA World Cup in 2026.
It will be interesting to see if Blackburn or Charlton can get a deal for Miller over the line this summer as they look to strengthen the right-hand side of their defences, as they will clearly need to pay more than £1 million if they are going to do so.
Blackburn have already strengthened at right-back with the signing of Ryan Alebiosu from Belgian side KV Kortrijk this summer, but after Joe Rankin-Costello joined Charlton and amid interest from Middlesbrough in Callum Brittain, it seems as though Valerien Ismael is eyeing up Miller to further bolster his squad in that area of the pitch.
Rovers are also closing in on a deal to sign Hull City centre-back Sean McLoughlin, so they are clearly in the market for defensive players at present.
Meanwhile, Charlton have Kayne Ramsay, who was one of the outstanding right-sided defenders in League One last season, so Miller would likely be brought in to add quality competition to the squad.
The Addicks have already reinforced their backline with the additions of Reece Burke and Amari'i Bell, while new signing Rankin-Costello is also capable of operating at right-back, so it is clear that Nathan Jones wants to ensure his side continues to be solid defensively after their success last season was largely built on an impressive clean sheet record.
Both Blackburn and Charlton could be seen as attractive destinations for Miller if he wants to make the step into English football this summer, but it remains to be seen whether either club is willing to meet the valuation that Hibernian have for the defender.
