It’s already been decided that Nacho Fernandez will be leaving Real Madrid at the end of the season, thus bringing his 23-year stay to a close. The veteran defender will be aiming to end on the highest of highs, when Los Blancos contest Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League final, with a view to winning their 15th title.

Nacho’s mind is already made up, and he will not be convinced out of leaving. He already has his next move in mind, that being to the MLS. However, he’s hit a snag in his mid to play in the United States.

As reported by Relevo, Nacho wants to earn a salary similar to what he is currently on at Real Madrid, but in order to do so, he’d have to be registered as a Designated Player (DP). Currently, only two MLS teams have DP slots available, those being CF Montreal and New York Red Bulls. Furthermore, only five centre-backs in the MLS are on these contracts, which have no salary limit.

Nacho may find it tough to get the contract he wants, although MLS clubs could be convinced to break the bank if he leads Real Madrid to Champions League glory next month. It remains to be seen how the situation plays out.
