Let's pretend we live in an ideal world for a second. Here are 3 January transfers which Southampton would make if their situation allowed.

While it might be hard to believe if you're a Southampton fan, the January transfer window is currently open. In fact, it's been open for just under a week now - I know, unbelievable, right?

So, surely Southampton will be active? Well, I have no answer to that. The reason for this is because Southampton don't even know if Southampton will be active.

Ivan Juric is expected to be involved in the January transfer window strategy meeting today. Yep, almost a week into the window being open is when Southampton will begin to plan. But let's grit our teeth there for a second.

Here are 3 slightly unrealistic transfers, for no reason other than killing the time until a plan is actually put in place. Don't ask me for the Lottery numbers if these somehow come true (they won't).

1. Evan Ferguson

Evan Ferguson is available on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion. While Southampton were involved in the discussion early into this news being broke, they have slowly fizzled out.

Understandably, there are many top clubs who want to bring in Ferguson on loan until the end of the season. He is a proven goal-scorer in the Premier League who has fallen out of favour at the Amex Stadium.

It's unlikely that Southampton will be close to the top of the pecking order for Ferguson. However, when has the hope ever killed us? Oh, yeah.

2. James Ward-Prowse

Ever heard of a certain English midfielder called James Ward-Prowse?

Yeah, he needs no introduction here. However, it's a surprise to see that neither Nottingham Forest or West Ham want anything to do with him this season.

With 344 Premier League games under his belt already, it would have been great to see JWP return to St Marys Stadium, at least on loan.

However, there are complications here. Considering he has already played for two Premier League clubs this season (West Ham and Nottingham Forest), it might be impossible to navigate around the rules.

3. James McAtee

James McAtee has scored a goal in the Champions League already this season. The former Sheffield United loanee has showcased a great ability to play out wide but this season, even with Man City's problems, he's fallen out of favour.

So, what harm could come from Southampton pursuing a loan move for him? It's not like Southampton are in excess of creative wide players, after all.
