One situation that Celtic fans will be keeping an eye on this summer is that of Jeremie Frimpong. The Dutch right-back left the club in the winter of 2021 for a transfer fee believed to be in the region of £11.5 million, joining Bayer Leverkusen. He has been with the Bundesliga club since then, developing into one of the most in-demand wing-backs in world football.
In recent years, we have seen Frimpong being linked with a variety of clubs. Teams like Real Madrid, Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City, Barcelona and several others.
Real Madrid are as good as out of the race now though, as Trent Alexander-Arnold looks set to join them as a free agent in the summer. As a result, Liverpool had looked like Frimpong's most likely destination.
Frimpong has a lot of similar qualities to Trent and was viewed as the perfect replacement for Liverpool. But now, it looks like the Premier League side have their eyes on alternative options as well.
As reported by Pro Sport, Liverpool have reportedly entered the race for the transfer of Andrei Ratiu. Upon hearing this information, Rayo Vallecano's bosses didn't hesitate and asked for a €25 million fee.
Of course, this is a problem for Celtic. Why? Well, because the Hoops are believed to hold a significant sell-on clause for Frimpong and would receive a major windfall if the Dutch right-back did end up completing a move in the summer transfer window.
Frimpong's release clause is believed to be set at €40 million. That would represent a significant windfall for Celtic. Of course, the Ratiu rumour does not mean that Liverpool have completely dropped out of the race to sign the Dutchman. And even if they did, there are plenty of other clubs in the running for his signature.
