I have been looking at the direct goal involvements (goals and assists) by Newcastle United players this season.

How they have been shared around.

In total, 131 direct goal involvements by Newcastle United players so far this 2024/25 season across the three domestic competitions.

There have been 19 different members of the NUFC squad who have contributed at least one direct goal involvement.

Direct Goal involvements by Newcastle United players in 2024/25 Premier League so far (before 19 April 2025):

31 Alexander Isak (25 goals and 6 assists)

19 Jacob Murphy (9 goals and 13 assists)

15 Anthony Gordon (9 goals and 6 assists)

12 Harvey Barnes (9 goals and 3 assists)

12 Bruno (4 goals and 8 assists)

8 Sandro Tonali (5 goals and 3 assists)

7 Joelinton (4 goals and 3 assists)

5 Fabian Schar (4 goals and 1 assist)

5 Joe Willock (3 goals and 2 assists)

4 Lewis Hall (0 goals and 4 assists)

3 Will Osula (1 goal and 2 assists)

2 Lewis Miley (2 goals and 0 assists)

2 Kieran Trippier (0 goals and 2 assists)

1 Callum Wilson (1 goal and 0 assists)

1 Dan Burn (1 goal and 0 assists)

1 Tino Livramento (0 goals and 1 assist)

1 Lloyd Kelly (0 goals and 1 assist)

1 Matt Targett (0 goals and 1 assist)

1 Sean Longstaff (0 goals and 1 assist)

A perfect example of how so many Newcastle United players are contributing with goals and assists, came on Wednesdya night against Crystal Palace:

Jacob Murphy – Scored the first goal and an assist for the fourth goal

Kieran Trippier – An assist for the first goal

Harvey Barnes – Scored the third goal

Sandro Tonali – An assist for the third goal

Fabian Schar – Scored the fourth goal

Alexander Isak – Scored the fifth goal

Joelinton – An assist for the fifth goal

Seven different Newcastle United players contributing at least one direct goal involvement against Crystal Palace make that eight if you count Marc Guehi after scoring his second of the season for United!

Of course, when it comes to creating goals, the number of assists doesn’t tell the whole story. Just look at Fabian Schar’s outrageous shot from his own half that hit the crossbar and rebounded for Murphy to finish, it doesn’t count as an official assist as it wasn’t a pass going direct to your own player, having hit the woodwork in between.

Likewise, so many of the goals this season have come from flowing moves, great football, where any number of Newcastle United players are key to these goals but aren’t necessarily the ones who get the final touch before the goalscorer finishes the move off.

A very healthy situation though, as we move into these final six games of the season. Alexander Isak is of course the jewel in the crown, but it is invaluable that so many other Newcastle United players are also contributing so many direct goal involvements.
