£12M-rated Rangers pair to miss rest of season

Rangers manager Philippe Clement has confirmed what Ibrox Noise suggested weeks ago, that his previous projection of £12M-rated pair Danilo and Cortes possibly being available in the final week of the season was, as expected, utter piffle, and both players are officially done for the campaign.

Clement had optimistically (and rather without a hint of foundation or basis) claimed both players had a chance of being fit for the final week of the season, but this seemed poppycock to us and something of a lottery.

Sadly that was indeed the case and the manager admitted today that the pair will indeed be unavailable and didn’t even confirm they’ll be ready for preseason.

It’s a blow, particular in Cortes’ case, that the manager stupidly risked him on Kilmarnock’s pitch while protecting Kemar Roofe from it, and that bad call (one of many) has cost the player his season, and Clement a brilliantly-talented winger.

As for Danilo, we were not remotely convinced by him, his stats were underwhelming (just 4 goals in 12 in the league) and while 11 goals and assists in 21 appearances overall is decent, we’re not sure the guy was or is the right player for this club.

Clement claimed he tried to sign him for Brugges when he was at Ajax.

Either way though we hate losing players, and that’s another two done for the campaign – will they even be available in time for KO next season?

We can’t be sure.

Clement said:

“Cortes and Danilo will not return before the end of the season.”

Short and sweet.

And completely predictable.
