RB Leipzig's first game of the new Bundesliga season on Friday night (20:30 CEST) at reigning champions FC Bayern is set to be a difficult one. We've taken a look at the most important facts, as well as the reasons why we can take all three points on the opening night.
Having won promotion the Bundesliga in 2016, this will now be RB Leipzig's 10th Bundesliga season. It's also the first time we will compete in the official season opening match.
The match with FC Bayern kicks off the 63rd Bundesliga season. People from all over the world will tune in on Friday night, with the game set to be broadcast live in over 100 countries.
Willi Orban, Peter Gulacsi and Lukas Klostermann are the only three players in our squad to have been with the club for all of our Bundesliga campaigns. Our defender Orban has been a Red Bull since 2015 and Friday's game is set to be his 350th in all competitions for us.
FC Bayern have only suffered three defeats at home in the Bundesliga over the past two seasons, one of them a 1-0 loss to Werder Bremen. Our new boss Ole Werner produced a tactical masterclass there in January 2024 to provide a real upset. He also knocked them out of the DFB-Pokal in 2021 with second-division club Holstein Kiel.
Six RBL players could make their Bundesliga debut RBL on Friday (Yan Diomande, Johan Bakayoko, Rômulo, Andrjia Maksimovic and Ezechiel Banzuzi). Our seventh new signing, Max Finkgräfe, has already played 24 Bundesliga games for 1. FC Köln (1 goal).
Friday will also be Ole Werner's first Bundesliga game in the dugout with RB Leipzig. His last three predecessors (Zsolt Löw, Marco Rose and Domenico Tedesco) all won their maiden league game at the helm.
RB Leipzig have only lost one of their six Bundesliga games against Bayern since the start of the 2022/23 season (W2, D3), claiming nine points, the most of any side during this period.
During this time, we also recorded a 3-0 victory over the reigning Bundesliga champions at the Allianz Arena in the Supercup courtesy of Dani Olmo's hat-trick in August 2023.
FC Bayern have strengthened their squad with three new players this summer. Defender Jonathan Tah has arrived from Leverkusen, midfielder Tom Bischof from Hoffenheim and attacker Luis Diaz from Liverpool. The Colombian winger is set to make his Bundesliga debut this week.Several big names have departed Bayern this summer. All-time record appearance holder Thomas Müller (756 games) has moved on after 25 years, while Kingsley Coman has also left after a 10-year spell.Bayern's departures:
Friday night's game between FC Bayern and RB Leipzig will be FCB's 250th competitive home game at the Allianz Arena, the ground they moved into in 2006.
Dominik Kaiser, Timo Werner, Emil Forsberg and Christopher Nkunku are just some of the players to have scored our first goal of a new Bundesliga season, with nobody ever doing it twice.
Who will score our first league goal of 2025/26? Let's hope we find out this Friday night!
