After his first summer transfer window as Queens Park Rangers manager, Marti Cifuentes will be looking to build on an impressive start to life as a manager in the Football League.

The Spaniard turned around the fortunes of the R’s after his appointment last season and appeased any early relegation fears as the club secured their second-tier status for another season.

A lot of that form in the second half of the season was down to the performances of Ilias Chair, with the Moroccan earning his side valuable points along the way with his goals and all-round creativity.

With that in mind, we spoke to Football League World’s resident R’s fan Louis Moir about Chair and where he sees his future lying after Leeds United's reported interest late into the transfer window.

Ilias Chair helps to rescue QPR from relegation worries

After a slow start to the season for both club and player, Chair began to rediscover his form in the run-up to Christmas last season, with goals against Rotherham United and Hull City earning his side valuable points as they battled near the bottom of the table.

Further strikes against Bristol City, Leicester City, and Coventry City all proved to be season-defining by the end of the campaign, while the 26-year-old also laid on another eight goals for his teammates.

With over 200 league appearances for the club to his name, the playmaker has established himself as a top talent in the division during his career, and although he is yet to feature this season, Moir still believes no other player comes close in terms of valuation.

The Hoops fan said: “There are probably not a lot of other players in the squad at the moment who are worth loads, but in time they could well be.

“I do think our most valuable player has to be Ilias Chair. I mean luckily for us he is still at the club, and I would be surprised if he were to leave in the January transfer window.

“Hopefully we have got him for at least another season because he is clearly the best player at the club.”

Ilias Chair valuation made after Leeds United show late interest

Although Chair is yet to play for the club this season, R’s fans will still be thanking their lucky stars that he is still their player, with Championship rivals Leeds United said to have been snooping around near the end of the summer transfer window.

That was according to a report from Football Insider, who claimed the Yorkshire outfit were trying to make the most of the fact that the midfielder’s contract has less than 12 months remaining as it stands.

Having said that, Moir wouldn’t be averse to selling the Moroccan if he does not agree a new contract with the club, providing his side were remunerated sufficiently.

He continued: “I think if we were to ever sell him, you have got to be looking for at least £10 million, or even £10-15 million for Chair.

“Obviously, he is one of the best players in the Championship and he is just pure quality.

“But I would be looking to sell Chair if the right offer came in, which like I say would have to be in the range of £10-15 million.”

With other top Championship talents like Morgan Whittaker and Tom Fellows also reportedly having eight-figure price tags, £10 million or more for Chair wouldn't be out of the question.

But with time running down on his contract, the R's may have to be savvy with their negotiations once January comes about, if they are going to recoup a decent fee for one of their main stars, or risk losing him for free next summer.
