After scoring a brace against AC Milan, the club he supports, Gabriele Zappa has admitted he also has a soft spot for Inter, which will surely ruffle a few feathers.

Zappa certainly had a game to remember against Milan, and some Rossoneri fans were left questioning why the club didn’t make an attempt for the right-back after such a performance. After all, scoring two goals from right-back suggests he could, perhaps, play a role in the Paulo Fonseca’s system.

Away from hypotheses, though, Zappa has always had an affiliation for the Diavolo, supporting them as a child, and when speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport (via Pianeta Milan), he opened up about his support for the club, alongside his interaction with Matteo Gabbia after the game.

On the double against AC Milan…

“I still find it hard to believe it. Sara, my partner, says I was electric in bed on Saturday night. And in the morning when I woke up I found a message from Gabbia, an AC Milan defender and my friend, who wrote ‘Damn you, but congratulations’. Maybe to get to the top I’ll have to do another double of these.”

On the future…

“In June I will leave. I would be happy to renew with Cagliari. This is a land that I love and I have experienced a billion emotions. There are people with whom I have bonded so much, I love the sea and the sun that are there all year round. I eat very well and one of my favourite places is Calazafferano, which can only be reached by sea.”

On his support for AC Milan and his experience at Inter…

“I was a Milan fan, then when you’re close to the first team and you’re at Inter you can’t help but support them. Today in the Champions League I cheer for both. Even if, when I’m at home, I take time off from football, I’m not always watching matches.”

As a Milan fan, supporting Inter would probably be top of the list of things not to do, but each to their own! Given how his feelings for the Nerazzurri came about, perhaps they could be minimised if he joins the Diavolo at some point in his career, which is certainly a possibility.
