Manchester City fans have reacted in their numbers to new comments from Jack Grealish around his playing style, amid a difficult campaign for the winger.

The England international has endured a difficult campaign off the back of last season’s historic Treble success, struggling with both injuries and a lack of consistency in terms of starts in Pep Guardiola’s line-ups.

At one stage, the Manchester City manager appeared to indicate that the 28-year-old was struggling to hit his usual standards in training sessions, and as such it would take him a while to establish himself back into the starting line-up in the new calendar year.

However, having returned for the business end of the campaign and shaken off a reoccurring groin problem, Grealish is largely back to his usual standards and delivering the possessional play and ball control in attacking areas that some feel Manchester City were missing.

Speaking during a new interview with Sky Sports this week, Jack Grealish has spoken at length about his playing style and his love for ‘taking risks’ whilst taking on opposition defenders, at a time when the wide forward has come under criticism in recent weeks.

“My game is all about creativity and taking risks on the ball, whether that be dribbling at players or assisting or scoring goals,” Grealish explained. “I’m more of an off-the-cuff type of player.

“I just go with the flow and whatever happens in that moment, I just react to it in that moment. I like to watch clips of myself before games, but not to visualise moments, more so just to bring back good memories and fill myself with a little bit of confidence.”

Grealish continued, “We get given iPads before games to look at the opposition defender we’re coming up against, so I know if he’s left or right-footed, how he likes to play and what his strengths and weaknesses are. Apart from that, I wouldn’t say I visualise situations.”

However, while many will be able to appreciate what Jack Grealish brings to the team in terms of possession control in advanced areas of the pitch, some prefer the more aggressive attacking play brought about through the likes of Jeremy Doku.

As such, the latest comments from Grealish around taking risks in attacking areas have been dismissed by some within the Manchester City community online, taking issue with Jack Grealish’s view of his own style of play and influence on the team.

Grealish and his Manchester City teammates have just five matches remaining this season, with the opportunity to secure a repeat of last season’s domestic Treble by beating away competition from Arsenal in the Premier League title race once again.
