With focus now shifting to the international break the hope is that Manchester City don’t pick any more injury concerns. Currently, the world champions are dealing with an injury crisis. Six players were unavailable for City’s defeat to Brighton on Saturday. A host of other players also went into the game, not at 100%. Now news has emerged that another Manchester City player has picked up an injury concern. The player concerned is Matheus Nunes.

Matheus Nunes has been forced to withdraw from the Portuguese squad for their upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures against Poland and Croatia. A statement on the Portuguese Football Association’s official website confirmed that Matheus Nunes has been withdrawn from the Portuguese squad ‘due to injuries’. The statement doesn’t specify anymore detail on the injury that Nunes has suffered.

Manchester City can not afford to have any more players injured over the international break. Currently Jack Grealish, John Stones, Jeremy Doku, Ruben Dias, Oscar Bobb and Rodri are all out with injury. Players such as Nathan Ake and Manuel Akanji are also working their way back to full fitness. A host of other City players are also struggling with fitness and form in Kyle Walker and Phil Foden. The injury situation at Manchester City has put a strain on Pep Guardiola’s squad.

One positive through Manchester City’s injury crisis has been the form of Matheus Nunes. The Portuguese international has shone on the left wing since getting opportunity to play. The hope is now that the injury that has forced him to withdraw from the Portuguese squad isn’t serious. After playing so many games in a short space of time the hope will be that with two weeks rest Matheus Nunes will en ready for Manchester City’s next Premier League fixture against Tottenham.
