According to Sky Sports’ Florian Plettenberg, Chelsea have shown interest in Xavi Simons and have opened talks with his personal entourage.
Although negotiations with RB Leipzig have yet to start, the London club wants to first see if a personal agreement can be reached with the player before taking further action. According to Plettenberg, Chelsea are currently the most serious option for the Dutch international.
Arsenal are also reportedly monitoring the situation closely. Bayern Munich, who have previously been linked with Simons, are currently not in the race, although sporting director Max Eberl is said to be fully aware of all developments surrounding Simons.
Besides Plettenberg, Fabrizio Romano has also reported interest from Stamford Bridge. Simons has reportedly been eyeing a move away from Leipzig since May, and the East German team are demanding €70 million for the creative midfielder. BILD previously reported that the Dutchman is eager to move to the Premier League and that his employer has made it clear.
After a previous loan spell, Leipzig signed Simons permanently from Paris Saint-Germain for €50 million. In total, he has scored 21 goals and provided 23 assists in 76 matches for the German club.
