The Red Dragons made history last week as they sealed automatic promotion from League One, which meant they have won promotion three times on the bounce.

Even though they have a final day trip to Lincoln City, attention will already be turning to the summer window, as they look to strengthen their squad to ensure they can compete in the second tier.

Wrexham AFC targeting Leeds United’s Patrick Bamford

It appears Bamford is on their radar, with TEAMtalk revealing that the Welsh outfit could make a move to land the 31-year-old.

It’s also said that Leeds are monitoring Jamie Vardy, and with the Whites expected to be in the mix for a few attacking options, Bamford could struggle for game time at Elland Road following their promotion.

The former Middlesbrough man spent much of the campaign watching on when he was available, with Joel Piroe the main man for Daniel Farke, and it had been suggested he could leave in January, with Wrexham supposedly a suitor back then.

Patrick Bamford would be a shrewd addition for Wrexham AFC

Wrexham need to have a very productive window, and you would expect Phil Parkinson to receive support in the market - as he has done since he was appointed.

So, this summer will be about trying to attract players with Championship pedigree, and you have to say that Bamford fits the bill.

The past few years have been tough for the striker, but, when fit, he can still be an asset - as he proved for Leeds in the past few games during the run-in.

Realistically, he isn’t going to play week in, week out for Leeds, and there will be doubts about his ability in the top-flight, so the chance to move to Wrexham may appeal to the player.

Bamford’s fitness record would make him a gamble for Wrexham, but if he can get out on the pitch, he is an upgrade on what they have, and his know-how will be welcome to the dressing room.

It’s hard to imagine that Leeds will command a big fee for the player considering he is entering the final year of his contract, but his wages are sure to be substantial for Wrexham, so it would be a statement of intent if they could get this over the line.

Wrexham are well-stocked with attacking options, with Steven Fletcher, Sam Smith, Jay Rodriguez, Mo Faal, Paul Mullin and Ollie Palmer all on the books, although several departures could be on the cards over the coming months.
