There are some ins and outs that the Clarets should look to execute in the coming weeks, with the new season on the horizon.

Burnley haven't needed to make a productive start to the summer after retaining the vast majority of their first-team squad.

The Clarets may have seen some of their former loanees leave the club and Charlie Taylor has also gone, as well as Bailey Peacock Farrell who has made the permanent switch to Birmingham City.

But they have a decent amount of depth in some areas and some of their youngsters could step up to provide depth in other departments.

There are certainly some additions that they should be looking to make in the coming weeks to prepare them well for the new season, but the fact they have retained much of their squad means they won't need an overhaul.

Below, we take a look at what the ideal summer transfer window could be, with both ins and outs on the agenda.

IN: Harry Toffolo

The left-back area is one that the Clarets will need to target following Taylor's move to Southampton.

Nottingham Forest's Toffolo could be an excellent replacement, as someone who can get forward and make some solid contributions in the final third.

If the club are to secure a Premier League return at the first time of asking, they will need to be attacking and Toffolo could help to drive the side forward if he makes the move to Turf Moor.

He would be in with a good shout of securing a decent amount of game time if he makes the move, so this could be a potential agreement that works out for all parties.

IN: Callum O'Hare

O'Hare has left Coventry City following the end of his contract - and that could present an opportunity for the Clarets to get a deal over the line for him.

He is one of the best attacking midfielders in the division and if Vincent Kompany's successor does operate with a player or two in this role, O'Hare could be an ideal addition.

Having registered plenty of goals and assists last term after recovering from a long-term injury, he could be an excellent addition, with Johann Berg Gudmundsson being released and Scott Twine looking set to leave this summer.

The Clarets may not have the budget to spend too much this summer, so recruiting O'Hare on a free transfer would be a very sensible move.

OUT: Luke McNally

McNally look set to be behind plenty of players in the pecking order next term, unless Kompany's successor is keen to promote him to an important role.

And with the player still having two years on his contract, now could be the best time to sell him to allow the Clarets to generate a decent fee for the central defender.

Having a decent amount of EFL experience under his belt, it wouldn't be a surprise to see him attract bids this summer and considering he has spent a decent chunk of his time at Turf Moor out on loan, McNally may not be too much of a miss if he leaves.

How much money they can generate from his sale remains to be seen, but cashing on him could help the club fund an addition or two.

OUT: Darko Churlinov

Churlinov endured a disappointing first campaign in Lancashire and having been out on loan last term, it would be difficult to see the winger making an impact for the Clarets following his return.

Even the likes of Manuel Benson and Anass Zaroury, who made a big impact during the 2022/23 promotion-winning campaign, didn't get much of a chance to make an impact last term.

With this in mind, it would be difficult to see Churlinov winning much game time and it wouldn't be a shock to see him return to Germany in the coming weeks, considering he has spent most of his career there.

He will be frustrated if he does move on though, knowing that he hasn't achieved what he would have wanted to in England.

Having gone out on numerous loan spells, now is the time for the Clarets to sell him whilst they still can.

The Netherlands international is clearly a talented striker and could be a real asset in the Championship.

However, it would be difficult to see him staying put and if he doesn't, the money generated from his sale could help to fund some additions.
