‘World-class’ fullback’s agent now ‘wants to’ meet Utd this week after his contract talks hit a standstill

Manchester United may have just been handed a glimmer of hope in their pursuit of ‘world-class’ fullback Alphonso Davies.

Despite being linked with the Canadian in recent months, fans had conceded defeat that the likelihood of acquiring his signature was low after all signs pointed towards him signing a new deal with Bayern Munich.

Davies’ terms are due to expire in only five months’ time, meaning he is now able to negotiate with foreign clubs and potentially even sign a pre-contract agreement if a lucrative offer is made.

Now, Christian Falk has thrown a fresh spanner in the works by revealing that talks over a new deal between the player and Bayern have failed to see an agreement materialise. As such, his agent is taking the opportunity to see what alternative options are out there for his client.

Falk claims Davies’ agent, Nick Househ, ‘wants to make meetings with Real Madrid, Liverpool, Manchester City and United’. He will leave Munich tomorrow and schedule conversations with the defender’s admirers.

While Bayern will continue doing their utmost to keep the 24-year-old in their ranks, they may eventually grow resigned to sanctioning his exit this month in order to avoid him leaving for nothing at the end of the season. He is widely regarded as one of the most influential attacking left-backs in world football, so seeing him depart as a free agent would come as a substantial blow to the board.

Last year, it was thought that Madrid were leading the race to sign Davies when his terms expired, though club officials have reportedly rebuffed Carlo Ancelotti’s pleas to attain January reinforcements – which are now looking even more necessary following their 5-2 defeat to Barcelona in the Supercopa de Espana final last Sunday.
