Aster Vranckx has been given the green light from Wolfsburg to engage in negotiations with Italian outfit Sassuolo Calcio over the possibility of a loan switch, Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg reports.
Vranckx has been excused from team training by senior Wolfsburg officials to finalise the deal with Sassuolo. It is understood that the player will leave on an initial loan for the upcoming 2025/26 season, with an option to buy clause included for next summer at a €9m valuation.
The 22-year-old midfielder joined from KV Mechelen, in his native Belgium, back in summer 2021. This loan move to Italy wouldn’t be the first Vranckx has seen during his time at Wolfsburg, having been sent out on a season-long loan to AC Milan for the 2022/23 season.
Last campaign, Vranckx found playing time hard to come by, making a total of just 15 appearances – the majority of which came from off the bench. Under contract at the Volkswagen Arena until 2029, however, there’s still time for the midfielder to find his footing at Wolfsburg. Nevertheless, the Belgian doesn’t seem to be a part of new manager Paul Simonis’ plans for his maiden campaign at the Wolfsburg helm.
