Kicker has fresh news to report in the battle between RB Leipzig and VfL Wolfsburg to secure head coach Jacob Neestrup’s services. The magazine claims that Leipzig are indeed trying to hijack Neestrup’s move to Germany’s green company team. Wolfsburg managing director Peter Christiansen is not pleased about RB’s attempts to steal away his former FC Copenhagen colleague.
According to Kicker, Neestrup remains Wolfsburg’s top choice. Christiansen and VfL sporting director Sebastian Schindzielorz chose the Dane over other interviewed candidates Alexander Blessin (FC St. Pauli) and Danny Röhl (Sheffield Wednesday). At the last moment, however, former Wolfsburg sporting director Marcel Schäfer intervened to offer Neestrup the job at the German Red Bulls.
Kicker notes that Wolfsburg have an alternative to Neestrup lined up. Current Go Ahead Eagles Paul Simonis will be installed in the event Neestrup says yes to Leipzig. The Dutchman only received his first head coaching appointment for his Erdevisie outfit this season, but did lead his club to the 2024/25 KNVB Cup.
