Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are battling to sign Brentford attacker Bryan Mbeumo after his outstanding 2024/25 campaign.

Mbeumo bagged 20 Premier League goals last season. He is an astute goalscorer, ball-carrier and creator who will bolster any team he joins.

The Red Devils have submitted two offers for the former Troyes winger, but they fell short of Brentford’s valuation. Tottenham reportedly matched Brentford’s £70 million price tag.

However, Man Utd can still offer Mbeumo more in wages. Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy may not want to distort his strict wage structure.

Spurs have two aces up their sleeves. They have just hired Thomas Frank as their manager. The Danish tactician worked with Mbeumo at Brentford.

The Europa League winners also secured a place in the Champions League for next season and will use it to entice Mbeumo.

This Mbeumo saga could be one of the intriguing summer transfer stories.

Who will come out on top in the two-way transfer battle for Mbeumo?

The Red Devils are undergoing a drastic makeover after a disappointing campaign. Mbeumo would reinforce the attack alongside Matheus Cunha.

Mbeumo could be an exciting addition to their ranks. However, he could also flop like several other attackers who have recently moved to Old Trafford.

Rasmus Hojlund, Joshua Zirkzee, Antony and Jadon Sancho are just a few of the players whose abilities seemingly dried up at the club.

Mbeumo could be taking a massive risk by joining the three-time Champions League winners.

While he might be enthused about the opportunity to help build the club back up, he must also be wary of United’s ability to overwhelm players.

The fact that United failed to secure a place in Europe for next season may also work against them.

Tottenham’s domestic season was a disaster, but winning the Europa League and clinching Champions League football salvaged the situation.

Spurs are keen on returning to the upper echelons of the Premier League.

Mbeumo would work under his old boss at Tottenham and have the added sweetness of Champions League football while remaining in London.

Tottenham have also shown a willingness to match Brentford’s demands. They have an exciting project and have what it takes to win this transfer race.
