Real Madrid are set to take on Bayern Munich this evening in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League semifinals.

After securing a narrow win over Manchester City in the quarterfinals, Real Madrid will be looking for a more convincing win over the Bavarians tonight.

One of the Real Madrid players who will be in focus heading into tonight’s encounter is Antonio Rudiger, who will be in charge of leading a Real Madrid defence that will have the daunting task of stopping Harry Kane and co.

Rudiger on facing Mbappe in the final

Heading into this game, Rudiger talked about the possibility of facing Paris Saint-Germain and a potential matchup with Kylian Mbappe in the final.

“If we play against Mbappé in the Champions League final, we will beat him and if he dribbles with me, I will destroy him,” said Rudiger (h/t Mundo Deportivo).

The Real Madrid defender, of course, expressed these words in a playful manner, knowing there is a substantial chance Mbappe could become his teammate next season.

When asked about Mbappe’s potential move to Real Madrid, though, Rudiger offered a rather diplomatic response, asserting that nothing is official just yet.

“Who said it would happen? It’s not official,” said Rudiger, who is expected to play an even more important role at Real Madrid next season, especially with Nacho Fernandez likely to leave at the end of the season.

Rudiger, though, did back Mbappe to succeed if he does join Real Madrid in the coming summer.

“I think the best in history have played for Real Madrid and he is one of the best players in the world, so he would work well,” said Rudiger, whose immediate focus will be to keep the Bayern Munich attack at bay tonight.
