Another day, another Alejandro Garnacho update.

The winger’s transfer to Chelsea is still ongoing according to most sources, but it’s making such slow progress that one would be forgiven for thinking it wasn’t happening at all.

Fabrizio Romano likes to inject a little enthusiasm into proceedings to keep the dream alive, and the certainty with which he speaks about the deal gives one the impression that the Garnacho camp are very much keeping him in the loop in an attempt to manifest a move.

Latest Garnacho update shows nothing has changed

Fabrizio Romano’s latest update on Chelsea’s chase of Alejandro Garnacho.

This latest update is a classic in the Romano genre – giving the impression that things have changed since the last update, while not actually moving things forward at all.

The last big update we got was that Chelsea were in club to club talks with Man U, having agreed personal terms with Garnacho.

Now, almost a week later, we hear that Chelsea have “stepped up club to club talks,” and that those “discussions with Man U are not well underway.”

So effectively – nothing has changed. We predicted a long time ago this deal would go down to the wire, and it’s proving to be just that sort of arrangement. Chelsea are trying to sneak a quick bargain here, and they can only do that by making Man U desperate for a sale. There is no reason for the Blues to rush.

Chelsea and Man U continue waiting game

For as much as Chelsea would like to slow things down to a crawl, they’re also aware that they themselves need to conclude deals at some point too. If they sell Christopher Nkunku, which is clearly their aim right now, he will need to be replaced, and suddenly the balances shifts towards them to get a deal done.

This latest update may have been worthless – but at any moment this could all start to move very quickly.
