An insight into the decision of the coaching staff at Real Madrid not to introduce Arda Güler off the bench in the club’s meeting with Sevilla this evening has been provided.
Real, of course, marked their return to action a short time ago, welcoming a resurgent Sevilla to the Santiago Bernabéu, in the knowledge that an eventual victory would see them open up an eight-point advantage atop the La Liga table.
And, when all was said and done, this is precisely what Carlo Ancelotti’s troops managed.
A solitary goal proved all that was needed to get the job done, netted by substitute Luka Modrić in spectacular fashion inside the closing ten minutes.
And yet, whilst Modrić’s strike, from a collective standpoint, of course came as a positive one for Real Madrid, it actually represented something of a blow for one particular member of the club’s ranks.
The player in question? Arda Güler.
Turkish starlet Güler, for his part, was condemned to the bench once more from the off on Sunday evening.
With time running out, and his side desperate for a moment of magic in the final third, though, the summer arrival in Spain’s capital was all set to be introduced to the fray.
As confirmed by La Liga TV, however, the plans of Carlo Ancelotti and co. swiftly changed, upon Real taking the lead against Sevilla.
With the capital giants having gone from seeking a goal to protecting their own, it was decided that Güler’s latest chance to prove his worth would be scrapped, at the very last minute.
A fine night for the La Liga leaders, but another frustrating one for the club’s struggling midfield jewel.
