Leicester City went to Brighton & Hove Albion at the weekend and showed a better version of themselves. The Foxes battled from behind to claim a valiant 2-2 draw at American Express Stadium. In fact, I for one would certainly argue that the points could have come home to Leicestershire after watching live. If the east Midlands side could have just shown an ounce of this spirit and vigour for the previous three months, they would be in a far superior position.
Under fire Leicester manager Ruud van Nistelrooy made some welcomed and intuitive change to his starting lineup, for once. He brought in previously impactful and energetic younger squad players. And the Dutchman's alterations paid off for City. The LCFC system also happily switched from a back five, or three, to a back four. Gladly Stephy Mavididi, Kasey McAteer and Caleb Okoli notably came into the team.
Now we explain why McAteer and Mavididi were reinstated to the XI amid a much better performance from the Foxes. Meanwhile the former also claims fans are mistaken about one aspect at King Power Stadium. Let's find out about both matters straight away.
While van Nistelrooy is yet to directly discuss the pair, from the interviews I have seen, we can read into why they started. The ex-Manchester United player and interim head coach did elaborate elsewhere giving us insight.
Essentially LCFC's direction has now 'changed course', van Nistelrooy stated. There is now 'greater importance' placed on the upcoming Championship campaign.
Foxes who were previously shunned now have the chance to show commitment. This is why the duo played, as well as being partial reason for Jake Evans' debut.
The winger has corrected an apparent misconception:
"Look at our run and teams can write us off straight away. But we’re still a team, we’re still together in the dressing room and we’re all fighting for each other day in, day out.Sometimes it might not look like that to our fans, but we are. We don’t stop trying."Kasey McAteer
