Why June was the best month for the Los Angeles Galaxy

Technically, the Los Angeles Galaxy just experienced their second month of the regular season which they lost only once. The first was February, as they only played in one game that month. It was the season opener at home against one of the surprising, feel-good stories in the 30th MLS season.
If there was an opposite to a surprising, feel-good story in the league, the LA Galaxy would be it.
After winning the 2024 MLS Cup Finals last season, the reigning champions look far from the team that hoisted their sixth league title nearly seven months ago.
Instead, the LA Galaxy went 16 straight games before finally winning 2-0 against Real Salt Lake before the regular season's halfway point. Head Coach Greg Vanney was also extended (through 2028) during that rough stretch.
Sure, they still experienced their eighth shutout loss of the season. It came at the expense of a road trip to play the Colorado Rapids. They are a team that not only is looking to get back to the postseason, but also wants to extract a level of revenge after being swept in the opening round of last year's MLS Western Conference Playoffs.
June featured three games for the LA Galaxy, all on the road. That is a better schedule than having to play seven games in May.
Not only did the LA Galaxy lose to a team 1-0 to open up May, but their opponent never took a shot attempt. The only score was the defensive veteran Maya Yoshida's own goal.
In the next game, the Los Angeles Galaxy were decimated, 7-0, by a familiar foe in the New York Red Bulls. Another own-goal from a defensive veteran, this time it was Miki Yamane, capped off the horrid evening for the Galaxy.
In the same month, the LA Galaxy squandered a 2-0 lead at halftime on the road against the Philadelphia Union. They are the best team in the MLS Eastern Conference, as well.
"First of all, to only concede one goal, it's only one, but obviously it's progress. The way we concede obviously is a shot from outside the box, and when we do this -- there is always things we could have done better, but sometimes you got to tip your hat when somebody puts it in the top of the corner. But, yeah, over the course of the game it's not that many chances that we give away, so that's obviously a positive to take with us."Mathias Jorgensen, LA Galaxy defender
June had a different vibe to it. The LA Galaxy almost pulled off a 3-2 lead on the road against St. Louis City SC. This is a team that the Galaxy have yet to beat during the MLS regular season. Pec had not scored since the second game of the season.
Marco Reus impressed in that game, as he had two assists to complement Gabriel Pec's first of two goals in the contest, in addition to Matheus Nascimento's first career MLS goal.
Unfortunately, the completion of Joao Klauss's hat trick tied the game up 3-3 in stoppage time of the second half. The next game, the LA Galaxy for the 13th time. However, that was their only loss in June.
Reus was given the honor of wearing the captain's band for the first time in his MLS career. It paid dividends as the former Borussia Dortmund star answered the Earthquakes' first-half score.
The LA Galaxy may not be a playoff team this season. They know that. But, they reminded the league that they are not quitting or caving under pressure.
With no All-Star selections on the roster, the trio of Reus, Pec, and Nascimento has played strongly as of late. Despite allowing six goals in three games this month, the LA Galaxy did not give up on goalkeeper Novak Micovic.
In his first three games, he gave up seven goals. The LA Galaxy offense, however, only provided one goal of support in that span (0-0-3).
While it remains to be seen who Vanney will list for his Starting XI for the Galaxy's July 4th game against the Vancouver Whitecaps, rest assured, June was a much better month.
