Julian Brandt is in the final 18 months of his contract at Borussia Dortmund, and it’s uncertain as to whether the German’s future is at the club.
As reported by WAZ, it’s unclear as to whether there will be contract negotiations to extend Brandt’s current deal beyond 2026. One reason for this is it’s not clear known if Borussia Dortmund will be playing Champions League football next season. Die Schwarzgelben sit 10th in the Bundesliga, seven points behind Freiburg who occupy the final UCL spot. But after Niko Kovac’s first league win as Dortmund head coach will certainly give the club a boost heading into Saturday’s game against St. Pauli. Champions League qualification would mean that Sebastian Kehl and Lars Ricken would be able to meet Brandt’s demands.
Secondly, the club want to wait and see how Brandt ends the season. The 28-year-old has three goals and five assists in 19 Bundesliga games this season, and five assists in nine Champions League games, but the player’s form and performances have always come under scrutiny. It’s likely that the player would need to be more consistent to earn a new contract.
