The Chelsea goalkeeper is set to join the League One outfit on loan this summer.
The reasons for the delayed announcement of Bolton Wanderers' deal to sign Chelsea goalkeeper Teddy Sharman-Lowe on loan have been revealed.
Bolton have got off to a very hot start this summer as Steven Schumacher looks to address the issues that he had to deal with in the latter stages of the 2024/25 campaign. A new centre-forward - Sam Dalby - has been acquired, as has an attacking midfielder - Xavier Simons - a future prospect - Charlie Warren - and a new central defender - Richard Taylor.
Their next addition is set to be Sharman-Lowe. The Chelsea youngster was Doncaster Rovers' mainstay between the sticks last season when they won League Two.
FLW exclusively revealed in early May that the Trotters were keen on signing Sharman-Lowe for the 2025-26 season, and it has now been reported that Bolton have agreed a loan deal for the 22-year-old - but any confirmation of that has been put on hold.
Sharman-Lowe is currently representing England in the Euro under-21s competition in Slovakia. He has been on the bench for the opening two games of the competition, from which England have taken four points.
Because of the summer competition, and his parent club's involvement in the Club World Cup in the United States, an official announcement of the six-foot-four keeper's move to the Toughsheet Community Stadium has been put on hold, as per the Bolton News.
He wasn't the only goalkeeper that Bolton were looking at, as it was reported a couple of weeks after interest emerged in Sharman-Lowe that Crystal Palace stopper Owen Goodman was also on the radar following a standout season with AFC Wimbledon in League Two.
Football League World exclusively reported though over a week ago that Huddersfield Town were interested in the 21-year-old, and it has since been claimed by The Athletic that the Terriers are set to win that particular race, though, which has forced Wanderers to turn to Sharman-Lowe as their next-best choice.
Sorting out the Trotters' frailties at the back is clearly the next phase of Schumacher's plans to get Bolton back in the promotion hunt.
They conceded the second most goals of the teams that finished in the top half of the table (70). A dozen of those goals were shipped in the final five games of the season.
Schumacher is looking to add some Championship experience to his backline through the addition of Hull City left-back Matty Jacob.
The 24-year-old is still under contract at the MKM Stadium and is now being monitored by Reading, according to Hull Live, as well as clubs in Switzerland.
