The 2024/2025 season is only a few months from completion, and some huge players will be out of contract in June/July. But exactly who is on that list?
Individually excellent players, all arguably world-class even. But the combination of Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk have constantly been referenced as a trio over the last nine months or so.
That’s because they are all out of contract come the end of this campaign. How Liverpool have allowed three of their best players to be in this situation is a huge question in itself, but the question all Liverpool fans want to know now is who will stay and who will go.
Common consensus for a while has been that van Dijk is likely to stay, Salah is also likely, depending on financial demands, and that Alexander-Arnold is the one closest to leaving.
David Ornstein in a recent Q+A confirmed as much, caveating that the situation could well change and is not yet set in stone.
If Liverpool’s right-back was to go, Real Madrid would almost certainly be his new home. They have been a fan of the 26-year-old for years, their own legendary right-back Dani Carvajal is now 33, and Arnold’s best friend Jude Bellingham is at the club.
A move feels inevitable, but Liverpool fans will be hoping a Premier League title win may sway his decision.
Another of the Premier League’s best players, De Bruyne is also out of contract at the end of this term. The Belgian has struggled this season to cope with demands.
His fitness, understandably at 33, is not what it was, and it may make sense for both club and player to part ways.
De Bruyne has been a true legend for Manchester City. He has been at the club for 10 years, racking up 409 games to date.
He was the quickest ever player to rack up 100 assists in the history of the Premier League, doing so in 237 games.
As of yet his name has not been linked to any other clubs, but he has also not formally entered contract extension talks with City. His future is still very much up in the air.
Jonathan David has been linked with a move away from Lille for years it seems. He has been at the club for five years and never scored below 13 in a season, with a high of 26 in a campaign.
With that level of consistency, and still just 25-years-old, he is an attractive option for a lot of clubs. From 1st January he was allowed to discuss a pre-contract agreement with another club. According to Sky Sports, four Premier League and two Serie A clubs approached his camp, with no specific names mentioned.
It’s fair to say his name will be mentioned a lot more over the coming months.
Kimmich has been at Bayern for a decade but looks set to depart this season. Liverpool and Arsenal are two sides currently going for him, but with the German’s quality and still just 30-years-old, he will not be short of suitors in the summer.
He was in contact extension talks with Bayern, but it seems they have broken down.
The silky German winger is thought be to close to a contract extension with Bayern, but GOAL have reported that if that does not materialise, Arsenal and Manchester United will be waiting in the wings to scoop him up.
Sane is not having as good a season as he is used to, but his talent, ability and potential on his best days are up there with the very best in the world.
