In a summer packed with international football with Manchester United players taking part at the European Championship and Copa America, United’s pre-season will kick off with a depleted squad available.

As a result Erik ten Hag will have to draft in a number of academy players to fill the holes for the pre-season tour.

With United’s u18s hot off the back of a treble-winning season, the timing couldn’t be any better to dip into the never ending production line of talents at Carrington.

Therefore, we take a deeper look at some of the names who could burst onto the scene this summer in our five part series. Click here to view the first, second and third editions.

With a gaping hole between United’s midfield and backline last season, a player of Finley McAllister’s style was sorely missed.

A possible exit for Casemiro along with Kobbie Mainoo, Scott McTominay, and Christian Eriksen taking part in the Euros could create an opportunity for McAllister, at least in the opening pre-season match against Rosenborg, to make an impression.

Although Toby Collyer may be ahead of him due to age, and was seen talking to Erik ten Hag after the FA Cup Final which has caused some excitement, McAllister is also banging on the door.

The 17 year old McAllister is no stranger to Ten Hag himself, having taken part in first team training last season.

Despite being two and a half year’s younger than Collyer, the u18s treble-winning McAllister may possess a higher potential to push on to top level football.

Scoring two goals and providing five assists in the u18s league last season, McAllister provides a defensive grittiness alongside a polished technical game on the ball.

The youngster also brings a degree of flexibility too, spending the early parts of last season at right back, where he effectively got up the pitch to score both of his goals during the season.

Adapting a modern approach to the role, McAllister often tucked inside from a wide position to help control games in midfield before eventually returning to his natural role as a defensive midfielder for the latter stages of the season.

He also filled in at centre back during emergencies, showing a willingness to do anything for the team.

Captaining United’s u18s and also having worn the armband for England, the young midfielder certainly isn’t lacking confidence or passion as he eats up the ground in midfield like a young Roy Keane.

A local Mancunian and United fan, McAllister has been seen in the stands supporting the first team up and down the country, a connection to the club and fans which will make any involvement under Ten Hag all the more special.
