Liverpool recently made history when they once again won the Premier League title, marking it as their 20th top-flight tournament, and are reportedly in the running for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.

Arne Slot has led the club to glory in the post-Klopp era, to the joy of football fans across the UK.

The summer transfer window is now in progress, and rumours are flying, with the Reds reportedly in conversation with top Serie A striker Osimhen. The 26-year-old striker from Nigeria played on loan at Galatasaray last year, where he was on loan. He scored 37 goals and 8 assists in his season of 41 games. He has clearly proven himself, and Liverpool is reportedly eager to get the Napoli player on their side.

However, it’s not just Liverpool that wants him; he is one of the most desired players in Europe. Manchester United is also looking to secure his commitment for their squad, but the reigning Premier League champs may just have the upper hand.

Bookmakers in the United Kingdom are eagerly monitoring the summer transfer window as teams vie for the same players across Europe. Individual players can transform a team’s trajectory in their leagues. Liverpool’s sporting director Richard Hughes, along with Slot, has already signed Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong and is also eyeing Florian Wirtz (Bayer) and Milos Kerkez (Bournemouth).

Osimhen a priority for Liverpool

However, Serie A’s Osimhen remains top priority for Liverpool. Reportedly, Liverpool “held talks” with Osimhen last month, although he has not confirmed these rumours yet. Napoli are apparently willing to sell him according to the £63 million release clause in Osimhen’s contract. This may be quite straightforward, but apparently, Osimhen is looking to earn £400,000 a week at whichever club he moves to, which can pose a challenge even for Premier League winners.

Osimhen is likely to fit in well at Liverpool. Slot has transformed the team’s play, making their attacks more direct and structured. Osimhen’s skill, movement, and goal-scoring abilities will pose him as a real threat against opponents, and also create more space for the defence to succeed.

While on loan at Galatasaray, Osimhen proved his ability to perform under pressure. Galatasaray won their third consecutive Super Lig title in May, and Osimhen was key to this team. He is also the highest-scoring African player to have ever played in Serie A. He seems ready to take on the Premier League as a disciplined player.

It seems like a defining moment for Slot’s team. Liverpool’s success can’t be denied, but adding a legend like Osimhen to the team can set them up for many years of title wins in the future. Osimhen himself knows he is destined for something great, having rejected Saudi team Al Hilal (his second rejection to move to the Saudi Pro League) in an attempt to remain in the European leagues.

His dream is to enter the Premier League or Champions League, having now succeeded in Serie A and Super Lig. If Slot and Hughes can pull off this signing, it will be the biggest signing of the summer. But Manchester is also waiting in the wings, and Napoli and Galatasaray are yet to speak out about Osimhen’s future in their respective leagues.
