Manchester United have sanctioned a host of high-profile outgoings since the window opened.

At Old Trafford, Erik ten Hag will be without Raphael Varane and Anthony Martial next season, both of whom left as free agents upon the culmination of the 2023/2024 campaign, as well as recent departees Alvaro Fernandez, Willy Kambwala and Mason Greenwood. The club have, in turn, welcomed new arrivals Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro.

In regards to the women’s team, which Sir Jim Ratcliffe has already confirmed ranks further down his pecking order since taking the reins as co-owner, they’re now actively scouring the market for direct successors of several key players.

Club captain Katie Zelem had been with the Red Devils since they re-formed back in 2018. She played an integral role in their promotion to the Women’s Super League and, in what ended up being her final season as skipper, led the side to their first major trophy when lifting the FA Cup at Wembley in May – a feat that was then matched by the men later that month. Her contract expired in June, and she is now a free agent.

Mary Earps’ impending exit across the last year was football’s worst-kept secret. She had been heavily linked with a move away from the club for the two years prior to her terms expiring, with the board even rebuffing a world-record bid for a goalkeeper last August.

At the time, fans were taken aback at the decision given that she had only one year remaining of her terms and had shown no inclination to extend her stay beyond 2024.

What Earps has said since sealing long-awaited United exit

Alas, the 31-year-old England international joined Paris Saint-Germain at the beginning of the month on a free transfer. She has since spoken out on her delight to have made the move, telling the Daily Mail: “I’m moving to Paris in a matter of days now.

“There’s a lot to do in such a short space of time, but I am really looking forward to the new journey and this new chapter. I’m most excited to move to Paris for the football. I cannot wait to play for a top team and to be in a position to compete and win trophies over the next few years. That’s where I really want to be – fighting at the top. I am really looking forward to that.”
