Win by win, Chelsea are climbing the table, and the idea that they could actually be in a title race is becoming a thing. There are flaws in this team, but there are flaws in our competition too, and at the moment we’re putting lesser teams away and picking up points at quite a clip as we head towards Christmas.

Of course, the best argument against Chelsea being in for the title actually has nothing to do with the Blues – it’s Liverpool’s form. The Reds are 9 points clear of Chelsea with 32% of the season played, and look like they’re going to continue just grinding out wins steadily.

Chelsea’s title prospects considered

Luis Miguel Echegaray and Janusz Michallik were in agreement about Enzo Maresca’s team and their prospects:

“No. It’s too early for them to be title contenders. Happiness lies within them doing top 4. If they can reach that. If they can reach a top four spot that is a tremendous achievement for Enzo Maresca in his first season as Chelsea manager. The moment you start thinking about the title that’s a little too far,” said Echegaray.

“It’s quite possible, there’s still some issues that Chelsea are going to have to deal with… but it’s incredible. I can for sure given them a shout for the top four. But a little too early for the title,” Michallik agreed.

So it seems most people agree that our defence will let us down, at least in terms of catching Liverpool. But we’re still miles ahead of where we’re expected to be. Next up: Aston Villa on Sunday.
