Former Leeds United manager Neil Redfearn has hailed Joel Piroe’s pass for Daniel James’ goal against Middlesbrough as one of ‘international class’.

The 25-year-old forward started this season as Daniel Farke’s second-choice striker, but with his performances, he has sealed a place in the starting line-up.

On Tuesday, Farke, however, decided to deploy Piroe as a substitute in the second half and the Dutchman assisted a goal in the 74th minute to help Leeds secure a 3-1 victory.

Redfearn thinks that Piroe’s pass for James’ goal was international class and pointed out that the forward showed his game awareness after coming off the bench.

The ex-Whites boss added that Piroe was the difference maker as he controlled the ball and brought his Leeds team-mates into the game and stressed that he knew the danger runners could pose.

“He made a massive difference and what he does is he has got a great awareness and his touch is good”, Redfearn said on BBC Radio Leeds.

“I mean, the weighted pass for Dan James’ goal was international class.

“I thought he showed real awareness of what was needed from him when he came on; he got hold of the ball, brought players into the game.

“He was aware of the runners in behind into the space, he knew the threat they posed and I thought he really played his part.”

Piroe has scored seven times and has assisted three goals for Leeds in his 20 appearances in the Championship so far this season.
