A chapter has officially closed. Seven years after joining Paris Saint-Germain, Kylian Mbappé (25) pulled on the Rouge et Bleu of the French club for the final time on Saturday as Les Parisiens beat Olympique Lyonnais in the Coupe de France final to complete a domestic treble.

Mbappé’s departure has been expected for months and it was finally made official earlier in May, just two days before his final game at the Parc des Princes as a PSG player. After his final game for the club, Mbappé was nostalgic when recalling his time at PSG. “As a football player, you don’t have time to watch time pass,” he began in a post-match interview with beIn Sports. “Before the final, I thought a lot about all the years spent here and telling myself that it’s over. It caused me a bit of heartache. What I had here, I will never find elsewhere,” he added.

Playing for his hometown club, Mbappé did not fulfil his dream of winning the UEFA Champions League with PSG but over the course of his spell with Les Parisiens, he did win 15 trophies and leaves as the club’s all-time top-scorer. He has more than made his mark. “I am happy to have written a bit of history,” said Mbappé before looking towards the future: “What is certain is that what awaits me will be fantastic.”

Mbappé refused to confirm his highly-anticipated Real Madrid move, however, speaking in the mixed zone post-match, he did say that an announcement may come in “just a few days”.
