Chelsea have just cruised to a 3-0 win over PSG in the Club World Cup final, a truly sensational performance from Enzo Maresca’s team who saved their best of a long season until the very last.
There is a reason that the Blues were able to go up a gear out in the USA – they added numerous players in the transfer market before the tournament began. Joao Pedro and Liam Delap up top, Dario Essugo and Andrey Santos to the midfield, with Jamie Gittens still yet to debut.

With 60 minutes on the clock on a boiling evening in New York, changes were very necessary, especially after such a draining season. But it was the actual changes that Chelsea were able to make which should have other teams in the Premier League and beyond sitting up and taking notice.
The sheer quality we’re bringing off the bench now is crazy – Andrey Santos would be a regular starter for most teams in Europe. We have him as a super sub to bring on late in games. Liam Delap brings energy and running to the front line, with Nicolas Jackson also there to help if needed. A year ago we had Jackson and pretty much nobody else. He’s now third choice.
That injection of quality and energy into games gives this team another gear to go to just as the opposition starts to slow down. It should mean enough to blow away smaller teams, plus the depth to change things up and beat the big boys.
Add a back up left back and centre back and a goalkeeper and we might just be ready to compete for the Premier League.
