Blues boss Chris Davies has commented on Birmingham’s upcoming summer transfer window plans.
Birmingham City boss Chris Davies has commented on the club's approach to the summer transfer window, hopeful they will come out of the window stronger than they went into it.
Blues will be beginning to put plans in place for the window after gaining promotion back to the Championship at the first attempt.
Smashing the record League One points tally and resoundingly lifting the third-tier title, the West Midlands outfit are expected to be significantly backed financially by Tom Wagner as they search for a return to the Premier League as quickly as possible, but Blues will first have to build a squad that can compete in such a relentless 46-game campaign.
Birmingham will be searching within their squad for who can and can’t cut it in the Championship, with a host of incomings and outgoings expected as the club looks to set out it’s stall this season in the second tier.
With transfer activity expected to ramp up over the coming weeks, Davies has revealed what he wants to see the club do during the summer transfer window, as he prepares to attack the upcoming campaign.
As posted on Birmingham City’s X account, boss Chris Davies has outlined what he wants to see from the club during the summer transfer window, demanding the squad becomes much stronger than what it currently is.
Davies said: “It’s all about can you come out the window stronger than you went into it.
"When that first whistle blows for the first game, it’s about having a squad that we believe can be successful in the Championship.”
Although it is set to be exciting times for Blues under Tom Wagner and Tom Brady, it is imperative the club have a successful transfer window in order to grow and develop in the Championship before having thoughts about a promotion push back to the top-flight.
While it goes without saying, Birmingham City are expected to be very busy this summer as they aim to build on their title-winning League One term.
As per BirminghamLive reporter Brian Dick, the West Midlands outfit could make as many as eight signings to bolster the squad.
The club definitely need to recruit pace and quality in wide positions, while the introduction of another physical frontman could also be required as rotation becomes key during such a demanding term.
A left-sided defender addition could also be on the cards, while Ryan Allsop may need increased competition in the goalkeeping department to keep him at the top of his game.
Those are a few positions Blues could add to over the summer, and Chris Davies is sure to gain his wish of coaching a squad filled with quality and talent before the second tier season kicks off in August, with Wagner and Brady backing him to push for yet another promotion as they seek to return to the Premier League as soon as is viable.
