The American defender looks to have built up a formidable partnership in quick fashion with his fellow countryman Auston Trusty. Both Carter-Vickers and Trusty impressively kept Leipzig 21 year-old rising talent Benjamin Sesko quiet for the duration of the match.

With Belgian champions Club Brugge on the horizon in three weeks time, Celtic have the chance to book their place in the knockout play-off round of the Champions League. Three more victories would guarantee an unthinkable top eight finish, but it is one step at a time, for now.

Brendan Rodgers’ side jumped six places following their best result in Europe’s elite club competition since a memorable display against Barcelona 12 years ago. Three consecutive wins in a row at Celtic Park in the Champions League has resulted in supporters believing that Paradise is starting to become a fortress once more.

Nicolas Kuhn provided an X-Factor performance along with Reo Hatate, who bossed the midfield area. Strong defensively, and led magnificently by skipper Callum McGregor, it was a mature performance from Celtic. Against a pot 1 team, Celtic controlled the flow of the game with Marco Rose’s flustered team not getting anywhere near the Hoops on the pitch, especially in the second half.

Speaking to the BBC Scotland post-match, Carter-Vickers highlighted his reasons why Celtic’s progress has been so steep this season in the Champions League.

“It’s our third year now in the Champions League, throughout that time we’ve grown in belief and confidence. “[Dortmund defeat] was tough, but after that we’ve upped our level of concentration and attention to detail and that’s shown in the last two games.”

He added, “we really wanted to put in a performance. It was a really special night. As players we’re excited but know [qualification]isn’t done yet. We showed the levels we can reach, if we can continually do that we’ll be all right.”

Callum McGregor also spoke to the BBC post-match and you can watch the video of what the Celtic captain had to say below…

Meanwhile, the Hoops are back in action this Sunday afternoon as they face Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premiership. A win and a strong performance are expected, but as always Celtic should expect a tough game in Ayrshire against a well-organised Kille side under the guidance of Derek McInnes.
