Harry Maguire has conceded that Manchester United have been ‘so poor’ at Old Trafford under Ruben Amorim, with the defender citing a lack of confidence as a main reason for their struggles.

United have recorded five wins and five defeats in their 10 home games under Amorim and are languishing in the lower half of the Premier League table.

The FA Cup victory served as a welcome distraction but Maguire was honest in his assessment of United’s home form under Amorim.

“The run of results at Old Trafford has been so poor,” Maguire admitted.

“Maybe the boys have lost a bit of confidence of playing in front of a big crowd.

“It’s something we need to address because if we want to be a successful team, we’ve got to make it hard for teams to come here and play and that first half wasn’t good enough.

“We’ve spoken about it and it’s not something we can put a finger on – otherwise we’d change it.

“I think it’s nights like tonight where you grind a win out and it gives you that little bit of belief.

“Once we’ve conceded the first goal, we’ve only turned around one game this season, against Southampton. That’s the only one this season.

“We’ve got to stop conceding that first goal and if you’re not playing your free-flowing football and the performance isn’t great, you’ve got keep yourselves at 0-0 for as long as possible.

“We know we have talent in the team who can change the momentum of the game but, at the moment, whenever we come under a tiny bit of pressure we concede a goal and that’s not good enough.”
