Bild reports that West Ham striker Niclas Füllkrug is set to miss Germany’s Nations League tie against the Netherlands with an Achilles issue.

The 31-year-old left Germany’s final training session at the Johan Cruyff ArenA after only 15 minutes where he picked up the injury, Füllkrug then returned but sat on the bench. The severity of the injury is currently unknown.

Füllkrug had returned to Germany’s starting 11 after being benched at EURO 2024 and scored the opening goal in Germany’s 5-0 win against Hungary in Düsseldorf on Saturday night. The former Borussia Dortmund striker had also just moved to West Ham in the summer and has yet to cement himself in East London.

This will open the door for potential change in the starting 11 against the Netherlands. Deniz Undav or Maximilian Beier could be given the chance to lead the line for Germany in Amsterdam, or Kai Havertz will return to his EURO 2024 role and Chris Führich could be given the nod to play on the left and Jamal Musiala could then be moved centrally. Against Hungary, Beier replaced Füllkrug on the hour mark.
