West Ham United are in a “strong position” to sign Brighton & Hove Albion striker Evan Ferguson in the January transfer window, as per Jacob Steinberg.

The Hammers are one of the clubs interested in signing Ferguson in the winter transfer market, but they may have now received a massive boost after transfer developments elsewhere.

West Ham have made an offer to sign PSV Eindhoven striker Ricardo Pepi, but it was rejected. The Guardian journalist has claimed that not everyone at the club is convinced about signing Pepi.

Saudi Pro League club Al Nassr were heavily interested in signing Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface. It was reported that Leverkusen earmarked Ferguson as a serious option to replace Boniface. They were leading the race for his signature.

According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Al Nassr have reached an agreement worth €77million plus add-ons for Duran with Aston Villa. The player has completed a medical and is set to fly to Saudi Arabia to complete the move.

This means Boniface will stay at Leverkusen and they do not have the need to replace him with Ferguson.

Brighton are ready to allow Ferguson to leave in the final days of the January window, either on loan or permanently, and West Ham are confident that they can get him on board.

Arsenal, Leverkusen, Everton, Bournemouth and Tottenham have made inquiries about the Republic of Ireland striker, and West Ham have drawn up contingency plans.

The Hammers desperately need to sign a new striker in the January window after injuries to Michail Antonio, Jarrod Bowen and Niclas Fullkrug.

Steinberg says that a loan deal with an option to buy Ferguson has been discussed, but a bid of about £40 million could be enough to tempt Brighton into selling the young striker.
