Carlos Soler, currently on loan from Paris Saint-Germain to West Ham United, likely realized he needed to leave the capital club this summer to secure regular playing time. After watching Spain win UEFA Euro 2024, the 27-year-old probably wants to get back on La Roja’s radar.

Soler was linked to various clubs during the summer transfer window, but on the final day of the window, the Spaniard went on loan to the Hammers. The Spanish midfielder has made six total appearances for a struggling West Ham United side that are 15th in the Premier League table.

In an interview with MARCA, Soler noted that manager Luis Enrique didn’t tell him that he wasn’t part of his plans, but the player could see the writing on the wall and knew that a change was needed.

“If I wanted to leave? Yes, that’s the truth,” Soler told the Spanish media outlet (h/t Le10Sport). “I never received any news from the club or the coach to tell me that they wanted me to leave. But I knew that last season had been complicated because of my playing time, and I am at the right age in terms of maturity to enjoy football. I wanted a new challenge, to leave and play in the Premier League.”

“I insist. At no time did Luis (Enrique) tell me that I was going to play little or that he wasn’t counting on me. But I’m smart enough to know the level at PSG, and I knew it would be difficult to get playing time.”

Moreover, The Athletic reported in September that West Ham manager Julen Lopetegui eagerly pushed for the PSG midfielder’s transfer this summer. Nonetheless, it will be interesting to see if Soler can perform well with the Hammers and get his career back on track.
