West Ham United are negotiating a deal to sign RB Leipzig striker Andre Silva in the January transfer window, as per Roshane Thomas.
The Athletic journalist has claimed that the Hammers are in negotiation over signing the 29-year-old striker on a loan deal with an option to buy.
West Ham are in desperate need to sign a new striker before the end of the window, and Graham Potter has earmarked Silva as a perfect option.
The Hammers have lost Michail Antonio for the rest of the season. The veteran striker has broken his legs after a horrific car accident.
Niclas Fullkrug is currently sidelined for a number of weeks due to a hamstring injury, while Jarrod Bowen is also out injured. Potter has Danny Ings as the only recognised striker, and he has failed to make an impact since joining from Aston Villa in the January window of 2023.
Sky Germany journalist Philipp Hinze claimed earlier today that “constructive negotiations” are ongoing. Several Bundesliga clubs are also interested in Silva, but as of now, no final decision has been taken.
The journalist adds that West Ham are also keen to sign Brian Brobbey.
Silva has dropped down the pecking order at the London Stadium and has not started a Bundesliga match this season.
The 29-year-old spent the 2023-24 season on loan at Real Sociedad. He scored four goals in 26 appearances and has previously played for Porto, Milan, Sevilla and Eintracht Frankfurt.
The Portuguese striker scored 19 goals in 53 caps for his country.
Silva has been out of favour at Leipzig, and he would be looking for regular games. A move to West Ham makes sense for all parties involved.
